The challenge was to provide a weathertight yet light porch between the existing renovated traditional cottage and the contemporary extension. As the front door of the new build faces south it is exposed to considerable rain and wind driven rain. The porch will provide a weather buffer and a ‘staging’ area before entering the house proper. It is also an opportunity to grow potted plants that would not survive exterior conditions. The new entrance to the house is located on the eastern elevation, providing maximum shelter.
